Beijing is getting a spectacular new international airport, and the city authorities have pulled out all the stops for the venture.
The main construction of the new Beijing Daxing International Airport is now complete, ahead of its expected opening in September this year. It's absolutely massive, with the total area spanning the size of approximately 140 football fields - the terminal building alone is 700,000 sq m.
The eye-catching airport terminal actually looks a little like something out of a sci-fi film with its spider-esque shape.
It's a pretty impressive architectural feat, so it comes as no surprise that the airport was designed by the late Zaha Hadid, who has been behind some pretty incredible buildings around the world.
The central body of the airport will be the main hub where passengers can find the restaurants, shops and airport security, while each 'arm' of the airport will lead out to the boarding gates and the eight runways.
The interiors are just as impressive as the airport's quirky shape, with high ceilings and swirling-type architectural features throughout.
It's estimated that the airport will be hosting 72 million passengers annually by 2025.However, it's actually been designed to accommodate nearly 100 million passengers, so there's plenty of opportunity for expansion down the line.
