The High Court on Monday ordered the government to form a committee including specialists and authorities concerned in health sector to resist unnecessary caesarean sections in public and private hospitals of the country.

The HC ordered the defendant including Health Secretary and Director General of Health Services to form the committee within one month.

The HC bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal came up with the order following the primary hearing of the writ petition filed by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST).

Barrister Rashna Imam stood for the writ petition in the court.

Rashna Imam said, “The HC issued a rule asking Health Secretary and Director General of Health Services to explain why the failure in resisting unnecessary caesarean sections in public and private hospitals will not be declared illegal. Health Secretary and Director General of Health Services have been asked to reply within four weeks.”
