Plea seeks division for ex-Sonagazi OC Moazzem

A petition was filed on Thursday with a Dhaka court seeking a first class division for former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain.

Defense Lawyer Masuma Aktar submitted the petition with the court of Judge Muhammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of Cyber Tribunal (Bangladesh) in Dhaka seeking the division for her client.

Confirming about this, Shamim-Al-Mamun, bench-assistant of the cyber tribunal said the court fixed June 24 for hearing on the petition.

It was mentioned in the petition that OC Moazzem is getting job facilities under the ninth grade of pay scale, so he is a first class citizen in the country and he deserved the division in prison as per jail code.

Earlier, the Court on Monday sent the former OC Moazzem Hossain to jail after rejecting his petition in a case filed on charges of illegally recording Feni Madrasah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement on video and spreading it online.

The court also fixed June 30 for hearing on charges farming against the police officer in the case

Moazzem was arrested on Sunday, 20 days after a warrant was issued in a case filed against him under Digital Security Act for illegally recording statement of Nusrat and spreading the video recording through online.

The tribunal on May 27 issued arrest warrant against the disgraced cop a day after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted its probe report over the incident.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case on April 15 with Cyber Tribunal under section 26, 29 and 31 of Digital Security Act.
