Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that portions of Dhaka Elevated Expressway, the first elevated expressway project of the country, will be opened for use by 2020.
He disclosed this before reporters while visiting the project's site office at Kawla adjacent to Dhaka airport on Tuesday.Obaidul Quader, also Awami League (AL) General Secretary, said, “It (Elevated Expressway) will be partially opened after the second phase of the public-private partnership project finishes by December 2, 2020.”
He also said that the second phase of the 19.73 kilometers expressway will connect Banani rail crossing with Moghbazar in the capital.
“The first phase of the project covering Airport Road to Banani rail crossing will be completed by January 2020 and the third phase from Moghbazar rail crossing to Kutubkhali on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway by March 3, 2022,” Quader added.
The 20km Dhaka Elevated Expressway has a budget of Tk 8,940.18 crore. It will start from Shahjalal Airport and end at Kutubkhali on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway via Kuril-Banani-Mohakhali-Tejgaon-Magbazar-Kamalapur-Sayedabad-Jatrabari.
