3 'drug traders' killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Three suspected drug dealers have been killed in an alleged gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased are identified as Dil Mohammad, 42, resident of Chowdhury Para of Cox’s Bazar municipality, Rashedul Islam, 22, of the same area and Shahidul Islam, 42, resident of Masterhat area of Amirabad of Chottogram

The gunfight took place in remote hilly area at Shamlapur of the upazila early Sunday.

RAB claimed that two members of the elite force named Jahangir and Sohel also injured in the gunfight.

Rab-15 Teknaf camp commander Lieutenant Md Mirza Shahed Mahtab, said on secret information a team of RAB conducted a drive at Shamlapur area of Teknaf to recover Yaba.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gun fight.

At one stage, when the drug traders fled the scene, the RAB team rescued three bullet hit bodies from the spot.

The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.

The elite force also recovered 40,000 Yaba pills, four locally made light guns (LG), 21 rounds of cartridges from the spot.
