South Africa seal their first victory

Soon after a rain-abandoned game afforded them their first points, South Africa picked up two points on their own in their fifth game in the ICC World Cup 2019, securing a nine-wicket win by DLS method over Afghanistan in Cardiff on Saturday. Set 126, after Afghanistan folded for 125, South Africa eased past the line in 28.4 overs after a tentative start from the openers, report agencies.

Afghanistan, who lost the toss in Cardiff, were dismissed for just 125 in 34.1 overs. They lost wickets in regular intervals as two openers Hazratullah Zazai and Noor Ali Zadran along with Rashid Khan in tail-order were able to reach two number figures as Rashid made 35 off 25 balls with six boundaries.

Quinton de Kock scored 68 for and Hashim Amla contributed 41 off 83 balls for South Africa as they coasted home in the 28th over. Protea spinner Imran Tahir adjudged man of the match with four wickets allowing just 29 runs in his 7 overs.
