The main opposition Bangladesh nationalist Party (BNP) crisized the 2019-2020 national budget presented on Thursday as one that would not serve the interest of the people, but it gave no financial reasons or economic factors for its stand.

“Expectation of people of Bangladesh will not be fulfilled through the national budget just like the way people’s expectation was not fulfilled in the last general election,” said BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The BNP leader told reporters at a press briefing at his Banani office in the capital that “The unelected parliament and government have no moral right to make a budget for the people.

A syndicate has kept the country in grip the way the last parliament election was held,” he added.

He mentioned only that the national budget for 2019-20 was “loan-dependant, and said the budget and financial activities are currently being run in the country for benefits of a particular syndicate.

BNP sources said the party is scheduled to give its formal reaction on the national budget at a press conference today.

On Thursday, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed a Tk 523,190 crore budget for the fiscal year of 2019-20 in the national parliament.
