BTRC bars mobile balance loan to Tk 5

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued directives to the country’s mobile phone operators asking not to pay more than Tk 5 as loan or advance talktime recharge.

BTRC Director General ABM Humayun Kabir on Wednesday informed this to a public hearing held at Engineers’ Institution in the capital.

Through this directive the regulatory agency put bar on mobile companies’ feature of advance balances providing to the users. Some operators used to provide up to Tk 200 as loan to a user.

The BTRC arranged the public hearing to list various complaints from customers over poor services and irregularities of mobile phone companies.

The major complaints against the mobile phone operators are—cutting money without informing customer, unwanted commercial messages and automatic calls, poor network, slow internet speed, poor customer service, high call rate and internet charge etc.

202 people were registered in Wednesday’s public hearing and a total of 1,319 questions were listed.

BTRC said it will publish the outcome of the public hearing on the website within 15-20 days after solving all the quarries and complaints.
