KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) rose 4 percent year-on-year in April, supported by the increase in all three sectors, official data showed Tuesday.

The Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement, the electricity index increased 5.8 percent year-on-year and manufacturing index rose 4.3 percent, reports Xinhua.

Driven by the natural gas index, the mining sector output also grew 2.3 percent, the highest level since September 2017.

For January to April, the IPI recorded an annual growth of 3 percent, as electricity and manufacturing sectors expanded 5.8 percent and 4.1 percent respectively. The mining sector, however, declined 0.9 percent.
