‘Drug dealer’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Tekhnaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

But, the Border Security Force of Bangladesh claimed that the deceased was a drug dealer.

Confirming the incident Teknaf 2 BGB Captain Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Hasan Khan said on information that a group of smugglers entering the country from Myanmar with a consignment of Yaba, a BGB team went to Hlila Jadimura border area on the bank of Naf River.

Sensing their presence the smugglers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight, he said.

After the skirmish, BGB recovered a bullet-hit body from the spot. Later, he was taken to Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead, he said.

"50,000 pieces of yaba pills and 1 locally-made arm, two rounds of bullets and a wooden boat were recovered from the spot," he added.

The deceased body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Hospital for autopsy.
