Eid tomorrow if moon sighted today

The holy Eid-ul Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country tomorrow (Wednesday) if the moon of Shawwal month is sighted in the sky of Bangladesh today.

The national moon sighting committee will meet at 7:15pm today to take a decision in this regard after reviewing information on the moon sighting.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Alhaj Sheikh Md Abdullah, president of the committee, will preside over the meeting.

If the moon is not sighted today, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday.

The countrymen have been requested to inform the committee about the moon sighting over the following phone and fax numbers.

The phone numbers are 9559493, 9559643, 9555947, 9556407 and 9558337 while fax numbers are 9563397 and 9555951.

All preparations for holding Eid congregations have already been completed across the country.

A three-day public holiday has begun today, marking the Eid-ul-Fitr that comes after a month of fasting.

The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the festival with due religious fervour.

The national flag will be hoisted atop government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments.

Miniature national flags and flags inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ will be displayed at important traffic islands and light-posts in the capital.

Besides, designated government offices and establishments will be illuminated on the night following the Eid day.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes.

Newspapers have already published supplements on the occasion, taking it into account that the Eid will be celebrated tomorrow.

Improved diets will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages for Eid.

Dhaka city corporations will keep open children parks, allowing free entry of all visitors on the occasion.

The day will be also observed at Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner.

The main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah adjacent to the Supreme Court premises in the capital.

The country’s biggest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj.

Bangladesh Railway will operate two pairs of special trains on Bhairab-Kishoreganj-Bhairab and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes on the Eid day to carry passengers to and from Sholakia.
