The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated district (Bogura) BNP convenor and former MP Golam Mohammad Siraj to contest the by-election to Bogura-6.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed Siraj the party’s symbol ‘sheaf of paddy’ as token of selection at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday.
The seat (Bogura-6) fell vacant as the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who won the seat in the national election held on December 30 last year, did not take oath as MP.
Siraj has also been elected to parliament on different occasions from the Bogura-5 (Dhunat-Sherpur) constituency. Now he is contesting for the first time from district town (Bogura-6).
Businessman Siraj is the owner of SR Travels transport group, which operates buses in northern Bangladesh.
