Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Monday said the cocktail, which blasted at capital’s Malibagh intersection yesterday was more powerful than normal cocktail.

Two people, including an on-duty female Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of DMP, were injured after a cocktail exploded at Malibagh intersection in the capital on Sunday night.

The injured were identified as ASI Rasheda Aktar Babli, 28, and Lal Mia, 50, a rickshaw puller.

He came to this comment before journalists while visiting at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to observe the condition of the injured rickshaw puller at 12:30pm today.

A police van, parked on the spot, was also doused to some extent in the attack.

After visiting Lal Mia at DMCH, DMP chief said, the injured rickshaw puller went through a surgery on his head on Sunday night. His condition is now stable but he is not out of risk yet.

Asaduzzaman Mia said, “We will do everything for his treatment on behalf of the DMP.”

“We are finding the motive behind the cocktail blast. DMP Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), Detective Branch (DB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are collecting samples from the spot,” DMP chief added.

He also said a group of miscreants might have done this for creating panic and unrest in people’s minds. We are not sure yet whether it was an act of militancy or not.
