Quader asks bus owners to remove unfit vehicles during Eid

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said as two flyovers and four underpasses are being opened to traffics, it will ensure safety and hassle free journey of the home-bound people of the norther part of the country.

The Awami League (AL) general secretary came up with this comment after a meeting with the authorities concerned in smoothing communication of passenger and ensuring their safety during Eid-ul-Fitr at BRTA Bhaban in Banani on Thursday noon.

“We aren’t getting the benefits of four lanes [of highways] or flyovers for the absence of discipline on the roads and highways,” said the minister.

During the meeting, Obaidul Quader pledged to the authorities to take effective steps so that the suffering of the people in roads and highways in the previous Eid is not repeated.

He also informed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate Konabari and Elenga flyovers of Gazipur through video conference on May 25.

Quader requested the owners and drivers of the buses and other vehicles to follow the traffic rules for smoothing communication of the people during the Eid.

He told them not to move old and unfit vehicles in roads and highways during the Eid.

He also directed the authorities concerned to remain watchful so that faulty and old vehicles cannot ply roads and highways.

Thanking the Japanese construction company for completing the second Gumti and Meghna bridges 6 months earlier before the scheduled time, Quader said, it a rare event in our country, it has saved around TK 720 crore.
