Nazrul singer Khalid Hossain is no more

Prominent Nazrul Sangeet singer, teacher and researcher Khalid Hossain died on Wednesday at the age of 79.

He breathed his last around 10:15pm on Wednesday night at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the capital.

The Ekushey Padak winning singer has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since May 4.

Born in Kolkata on December 4, 1940, Khalid Hossain has been singing Nazrul songs and working on recording of the original musical notations of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs for over six decades.

He has also worked as a teacher and examiner of Nazrul Sangeet at National University, Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, and many other music institutes.

Khalid Hossain has many acclaimed albums to his credit, is a member of the Nazrul Notation Authentication Board at the Nazrul Institute.

Khalid Hossain’s condition worsened suddenly after he went through an echocardiogram test on Monday morning.

He has been kept under observation at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in the hospital.

Khalid Hossain has been suffering from old age complications along with cardiac and lung complexities for past few months.

Khalid Hossain has been singing Nazrul songs and working on recording of the original musical notations of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs for over six decades.
