A mobile court on Wednesday destroyed 400 maunds of mangoes and fined Tk 24 lakh to nine traders for selling mangoes earlier than the government fixed harvesting time.
Sarwar Alam, executive magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion conducted the drive at a mango wholesale market at Jatrabari in the capital and found those mangoes from nine traders.He said the mangoes came to the market for sale before the harvesting time and the traders ripen them artificially with chemicals.
Those mangoes are harmful for human health; he said adding that they have destroyed 400 mounds of mangoes from nine traders.
Local administration has fixed mango harvesting time for Gobindavog and Gopalvog mango of Sathkhira from May 12, Guti and Gopalvog mango of Rajshahi from May 15.
Himsagor of Sathkhira from May 22, Himsagor of Rajshahi from May 28, Langra of Sathkhira from May 29, Langra of Rajshahi from June 5, Amrapali of Sathkhira from June, Amrapali of Rajshahi from June 26 and Lakhanvog of Rajshahi from May 25 can be harvested.
