Chittagong University (CU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury laid emphasis on checking authenticity of news before presenting for readers.

Though there is none as neutral, the news should be objective, said the VC.

He said these while addressing at the ‘Dua and Iftar Mahfil’ of Chittagong University Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (CUCAJA) at hotel ‘The Peninsula Chittagong’ in the city on Saturday.

The CUCAJA President Shimul Nazrul presided over the programme also attended by the university Proctor Professor Ali Asgar Chowdhury, the department Chairman Associate Professor Md Abul Kalam Azad, Chattogram Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, Ekushey Television Chattogram Resident Editor Rafiqul Bahar, Chattogram Bureau Editor Tapan Chakrabartya and the CUCAJA General Secretary Hamid Ullah among others.

Terming media as shadow-government, the VC Professor Iftekhar in his speech said positive journalism plays imperative role in building a prosperous nation and country.

Students from the journalism department are now holding different important posts at media outlets across the country and they will lead the industry in future, observed the VC.

The alumni members later held a meeting to set work-plans to celebrate the golden jubilee of the department.
