Awami League leader shot dead

A local Awami League leader was shot dead by armed terrorists at Naikhongchhora area in Rajasthali Upazila of Rangamati on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Kyahla Ching Marma, 40, president of Ward no-8 of Bangalhalia Union Awami League.

Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chandraghona Police Station, said a gang of terrorist stormed into Kyahla’s house around 11:00pm and opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Yumang Marma, chairman of Bangalhalia Union, also the general secretary of the local Awami League unit, claimed that the activists of Parbatiya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity or PCJSS (MN Larma) faction are behind the incident.

“Earlier, in the time of last Union Parishad elections, he (Kyahla Ching Marma) was severely beaten by the PCJSS activists” Yumang Marma added.

This incident happened within 24-hour of the murder of an Awami League leader’s brother at Rajbila union in Bandarban on early Sunday.

On May 19, Catching Thawai Marma, 28, brother of Chai Ongya Marma, vice-president of Rajbila union unit Awami League, was shot dead in the rubber garden area of Ward No 5 of Rajbila union under Sadar upazila.

It was known that Catching Thawai Marma was an activist of Awami League. The terrorists killed him after not getting his brother.
