BCL suspends Kalaroa Upazila unit for chopping off ex-BCL leader’s fingers

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Saturday night suspended its Kalaroa Upazila unit following chopping off four fingers of Manjur Morshed Tusar by the unit’s president, secretary and their associates.

A case was also filed with Kalaroa Police Station against seven including the unit’s president Sheikh Sagor and general secretary Mehedi Hasan.

Earlier, a group of the unit, led by Sheikh Sagor and Mehedi Hasan, allegedly chopped off four fingers of Tusar, former BCL organizing secretary and businessman, over a land dispute at Kalaroa in Satkhira on Saturday.

The victim was admitted to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital and later sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station, said, “We have already arrested the main accused Rezaul Karim and are conducting derives to arrest the others.”

There was a rivalry over 34 decimals of land at Kazirhat area of the upazila between Tusar and his uncle. On Sunday morning, a group, led by Sheikh Sagor and Mehedi Hasan, set pillars after measuring the land. Manjur Morshed rushed to the spot and asked them about their intrusion in his land.

Sagor, Mehedi and their associates beat Manjur calling him from his electronics shop.  Later, Manjur was admitted to the Kalaroa Upazila Health Complex. The BCL group went to the complex and beat Manjur again. At a stage of beating, Nurul Kabir Babu, associate of Sagor and Mehedi, tried to hit Monjur’s head with a large chopper. Four fingers of his right hand were chopped off when he tried to save his head.
