Tagore singer Shawon commits suicide

Tagore (Rabindra Sangeet) singer Farhana Yasmin Shawon on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by having excessive sleeping pills at her residence at Kashemnagar in Khulna.

She performed Rabindra Sangeet regularly on Bangladesh Betar and BTV and was an assistant teacher of Dumuria Government Primary School and general secretary of Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad.

Shawon, a widow and daughter of Sheikh Abdul Hye, lived at a rented house at Kashemnagar with one of her female friend.

Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad Khulna unit vice president Advocate Mina Mizanur Rahman said, “Shaon hung herself with her scarf from a ceiling fan on Sunday noon. She breathed her last while she was being rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital. Her body was kept in the hospital’s morgue.”
