CHATTOGRAM: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that role of journalists is imperative for building a prosperous Bangladesh of dreams.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest at a workshop on ‘Policy of Journalism, Presenting Objective News and Informing about the Right to Information Act’ at Bangabandhu Hall of Chattogram Press Club on Saturday.Bangladesh Press Council organised the workshop in cooperation with the Chattogram District Administration for journalists of print and electronic media.
The Press Council Chairman Justice Muhammad Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the workshop while Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam and the Council Member Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul were present as special guests.
Information Minister Dr Hasan in his speech said there are now online services of newspaper and television along with the online news portals.
All of them are being brought under registration to ensure discipline and journalists unions and press clubs will have to come forward in this connection.
“Participation of all is very important for forming the desired society and state as our family and social bondages are stronger than developed countries,” he said urging journalists to play due role in this regard.
Press Council Chairman Justice Muhammad Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed in his speech said it will have to be decided that who will be the journalists?Special Guest Naem Nizam in his speech said that the journalists will have to practise highest professionalism for keeping dignity of the profession intact.
“You (journalists) will have to talk about the mass people with brave and play role with spirit of the country’s liberation war and independence,” said the renowned journalist.
Press Council Secretary Md Shah Alam conducted the workshop while Chattogram Press Club President Ali Abbas, General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Vice President Reaz Hyder Chowdhury and Chattogram Union of Journalists General Secretary Hasan Ferdous addressed it among others.
Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamal Hossain presided over the workshop.
