Telecommunication Day observed

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was observed across the country on Friday with a vow to bridge the standerdisation gap in Bangladesh along with other countries in the globe.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages marking the importance of the day. President urged the telecom engineers for coming forward to ensure globally standard telecommunication and information technology services for the people of the country.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in the last 10 years, Awami League (AL) government has implemented extensive programmes for infrastructure development of telecommunication and information technology and ensuring utmost use of technology to reach the benefits of ICT to every corner of the society.

The WTISD is celebrated annually since 1969, marking the founding of International Telecommunication Union on May 17 in 1865 when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris.
