2 soldiers killed, 10 injured in Bandarban blast

Two soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in a blast at a heavy weapons firing range in ​​Sadar upazila of Bandarban on Friday morning, UNB reports.

The deceased were named as Jahidul Islam, 28, a resident of Lama upazila, and Nipun Chakma, 30.

The bomb blast took place at Aamtoli of Bandarban Sadar Upazila around 10:30am.

They injured were flown to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on helicopters. 

Nipun died while being taken to the CMH.

The incident was confirmed by a source of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

All of them are members of Comilla Cantonment's 16-Para Battalion, source said.

Bandarban's police chief Zakir Hossain Majumder said the army was schedule to hold a firing practice at Amtoli on Saturday afternoon.

The soldiers were clearing the bushes when an abandon shell exploded around 10:30am, killing Jahidul on the spot and injuring 11 others, he said.
