Freedom fighter Maj Mejbah Uddin Faruk (Bir Bikram) died at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital on Wednesday. He was 78. He was buried in the city’s Banani Graveyard with state honour on Thursday.
On the occasion, a doa mahfil is scheduled to be held at his Indira road residence in the city today. During the Liberation War, Maj Mejbah Uddin Faruk served as the commanding officer in greater Rangpur zone. After retirement from Bangladesh Army, he had joined Bangladesh Awami League and contested an election from Rangpur-1 constituency in 1996.Mejbah Uddin was born in the city’s East Rajabazar area in 1941. His father was Dr Ain Uddin Ahmed and mother Jahanara Begum.
