Students of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) called off their protest upon receiving assurance that their demands would be met by the medical college authorities.

Earlier, students of MMC boycotted all classes and examinations protesting against harassment of a female student by an outsider. Students also alleged that the student was subjected to harassment, as security guards were absent from work.

The medical college authorities held a meeting with both students and fourth-grade employees on Thursday.

Principal Dr Anwar Hossain said security guards Selim and Firoz have been suspended due to negligence of duty. Students have returned to classes and the situation is now under control, he added.

MMC students also put forward some demands which include arrest of the outsider, presence of security guards at the college hostel round the clock, installation of CCTV cameras on the campus including female hostel, recruitment of adequate Ansar members and an increase in police patrol.

Sub-inspector (SI) Shofiqul Islam, police camp in-charge of MMC, said the alleged stalker, most probably a rickshaw-puller, made an indecent gesture towards the second-year student when she was returning to her hostel in the afternoon.
