Renowned poet of sixties and translator Hayat Saif passed away at a city hospital early hours while undergoing treatment there. He was 76.
Family sources said Hayat Saif breathed his last at 12:15 am on Monday at the United Hospital in the city while undergoing treatment there, reports BSS.He is survived by wife, two children, a large number of relatives and admirers.
He was admitted to the United Hospital on March 22 and was kept in ICU since then.
“His body will be taken to the Bangla Academy tomorrow to pay last respect to the poet,” Director General of Bangla Academy poet Habibullah Siraji told BSS.
Hayat Saif’s real name was Saiful Islam Khan. He used to write under the pen-name of Hayat Saif.
He is one of the major poets of Bangladesh and is identified with the prolific sixties.
Hayat Saif was adorned with several awards including Ekushey Padak and Kabi Fazal Sahabuddin Padak.
