Superintendent of police (SP) in Feni SM Jahangir Alam has been closed on Sunday over negligence of duty regarding Feni madrasa girl Nushrat Jahan Rafi’s murder.
The ministry of home affairs took the decision as they found the SP could not play his due role during the gruesome killing incident of Nushrat.The SP will be attached to another unit after withdrawing from the district as a punitive action.
Earlier on Saturday, two police officials -- Sub-Inspector Abu Yousuf and Sub-Inspector Iqbal Ahmed of Sonagazi Police Station – were suspended.
On April 6, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre allegedly by people loyal to the principal of her madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as she had accused him of sexually harassing her in Sonagazi upazila of Feni district.
She lost her battle for life on April 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
A case was filed accusing eight identified people, including madrasa principal Sirajuddoula, lecturer of English Absar Uddin, Feni municipality councillor Maksudul Alam Maksud, and four unidentified ones.
Later, the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation.
