Public Universities' unified admission tests likely from next year: Mohibul

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on Sunday hinted that combined admission tests for entrance to the public universities may start from next year.

He came up with the statement while inaugurating admission process of the qualified candidates of SSC and equivalent examinations to class XI for the academic session of 2019-20 through online at the auditorium of Dhaka Education Board in the capital around 12:00pm.

Mohibul Hasan said, “Government will start combined entrance tests for admission to universities like the admission process of class XI soon. This will reduce sufferings of the candidates and their guardians a lot. It will also bring transparency in the process of admission to public universities.”

Mentioning a progress in the process of combined entrance tests, Mohibul Hasan also added, “Government has a plan to implement the process by next year.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has already drafted a report on the process after a meeting with education ministry. The education ministry will arrange meeting with public universities’ vice-chancellors soon to implement the process, he informed.

Mohibul Hasan said, “We want to start the process after we discuss the issue thoroughly with public universities authorities.”

He also stressed that no regulation will be imposed forcedly on public universities.

“People of the country want this (combined entrance tests for admission to universities). So we will start the process through proper discussion with the university authorities. It is also our political commitment to the people. No hindrance to this process will be accepted,” Mohibul Hasan added.
