Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to arrange two Twenty 20 friendly matches between World XI and Asia XI to celebrate golden jubilee of country’s independence and the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said BCB sources on Thursday.

BCB high-ups on request of anonymity confirmed daily sun that the two matches are expected to be played on March 19 and 20 respectively though the venue is yet to be finalized.

“We have made the proposal and sent it so that we can get the best of the players in the two friendly T-20s scheduled to be played between World XI and Asia XI,” a top BCB official said on Thursday.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan on Thursday hinted that they are on their way to organise the two matches though remained reluctant to disclose the format or the participants.

“On May 19 and 20 of 2020 we will arrange two friendly matches,” Nazmul told reporters at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan has earlier stated that they have a plan to celebrate the golden jubilee of country’s independence by organizing an international event.

BCB also plans to mark the 100th birthday celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along the way during this time frame.

“Next year, the country will observe the 100-year birthday anniversary of Bangabandhu and the 50-year of the Independence Day. We are trying to do something which can draw the attention of the world,” Nazmul told reporters at the BCB head quarter while disclosing the plan last month.

BCB earlier marked the silver jubilee of independence in 1998 with a tri-series between India-Bangladesh and Pakistan.
