Home minister vows to create an extortion free environment

In a bid to create an extortion free environment home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday vowed to take immediate action against extortion and extortionists.

The minister urged people to inform authorities on extortion incidents law enforcers will take action immediately.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal came up with this pledge while speaking at an inauguration programme of “Campaign Programme on Economical Purchase of Goods During Holy Ramadan”, held at Karwan Bazar area in the capital.

Bangladesh Market Owners Association and Mahanagar Market Owners Association arranged the programme.

Asaduzzaman Khan said, “We want to create an extortion free environment, where both traders and consumers will be able to sell and buy products without any fear.”

Confessing few extortion problems in the market, he blamed businessmen and traders for their silence on the issue.

“If there is any extortion, inform us bravely. We will take stern action. If you don’t inform the authorities, how can we take action?” Asaduzzaman Khan inquired of the traders.

Among others, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, FBCCI former president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general Benazir Ahmed, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAAB) president Golam Rahman were present at the programme.
