83,438 examinees absent from BCS preliminary test

Some 83,438 examinees remained absent from the 40th BCS preliminary test held on Friday under exam centres of 8 divisions, according to a release of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The BPSC said 20.30 per cent candidates did not appear in the preliminary test, the first stage of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), which is the highest competitive examination of the country for the recruitment to various BCS cadres.

This is a new record in terms of candidates’ absence in the recent history of BCS preliminary exam.

Of the total of 83,438 absent examinees, 48,753 were from Dhaka Division, 6,879 from Rajshahi, 7,617 from Chattogram, 5,479 from Khulna, 2,505 from Barishal, 3,064 from Sylhet, 5,063 from Rangpur and 4,078 from Mymensingh division.  

Five candidates were expelled from different exam centres due to bringing electronics devices in the examination halls and attending exams covering face with Hijab.

On May 2, PSC Chairman Dr Muhammed Sadique came up with the decision to take the test as per the stipulated time (May 3) despite the blooming threat of cyclone ‘Fani’ and exams was held without any disturbance by it.
