Wheat seed procurement begins in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR: Contract Growers a wing of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has set a target to procure 175 metric tonnes wheat seeds in the district this year, reports BSS.

According to Contract Growers Office sources 220 acres of land was brought under wheat cultivation through its 60 registered farmers to collect wheat seeds of three varieties.

The varieties are BARI-26, BARI-28 and BINA-1.

The office sources said 27 farmers cultivated BARI-26 variety wheat on 106 acres of land, 28 farmers cultivated BARI-28 variety wheat on 108 acres of land and 5 farmers cultivated BINA-1 variety wheat on six acres of land to achieve to target of wheat seeds.

Deputy Director of Contract Growers Office Khagendra Chandra Roy said the farmers were also imparted training on wheat cultivation earlier.

Against the target 92 MT wheat seeds were collected till on Wednesday, he said.
