Two ‘drug peddlers’ and a ‘robber’ were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers in the capital and Cox’s Bazar district on Wednesday.
In Dhaka, a ‘drug trader’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Diabari in the city’s Uttara area. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive in the area around 12:15 am where a gang of drug traders gathered, said sources at Rab headquarters.Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on Rab, prompting them to fire back. At one stage, Rab recovered the bullet hit body of the ‘drug trader’. They also recovered hemp and firearms from the spot.
Two Rab members were also injured in the incident.
In Cox’s Bazar, a ‘drug peddler’ and a ‘robber’ were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with police in Teknaf upazila.
A total of 10 light guns (LGs), 22 rounds of bullets and 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered in these connections.
The deceased were identified as ‘drug peddler’ Dil Mohammad Dilu, 36, son of late Mokbul Ahmed, and ‘robber’ Mostak Ahmed, 38, son of late Md Badiuzzaman, of Godarbil area under Teknaf Sadar union.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das of concerned Teknaf Model police station said they arrested ‘drug peddler’ Dilu from the Godarbil area on Tuesday evening.Acting on his statement, a team of the police station conducted a drive taking him to recover drugs and arms at an abandoned fish hatchery at Marine Drive Road around 12:30am, he said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, ‘drug peddlers’ opened fire on police prompting them to retaliate with bullet resulting in a gunfight, the OC narrated.
At one stage of the gunfight, the ‘drug peddlers’ fled the scene leaving Dilu in bullet-hit condition, he said.
Injured Dilu was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where on-duty physicians declared him dead, he said adding that two cops were also injured during the gunfight.
Six LGs, 13 rounds of bullet and 7,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot after the gunfight, the police officer said.
Deceased Dilu was a listed ‘drug peddler’ and an accused of nine cases filed with different police stations, he said.
On the other hand, alleged robber Mostak was also killed in another gunfight with police in Lengurbil area under the upazila on Wednesday noon.
OC Pradip said they arrested Mostak from the Lengurbil area around 11:00am on Wednesday.
Acting on his statement, they launched a drive taking him to recover firearms in the hilly Lengurbil area around 12:00 noon, he said.
Sensing presence of police, cohorts of Mostak opened fire prompting the cops to retaliate with bullet resulting in a gunfight, the OC said.
At one stage, the criminals left the scene leaving him in bullet-hit condition.
He was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead, said Pradip.
Four LGs, nine rounds of bullets and 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot after the gunfight.
