ICMAB opposes recruiting foreigners in accounting functions

ICMAB President M Abul Kalam Mazumdar on Tuesday asked the BIDA chairman to take necessary measures to stop the appointment of overseas accountants to work in Bangladesh.

He also said employment of foreign nationals, especially in accounting and financial functions, is causing increase in unemployment.

The ICMAB president came up with these observations in a meeting with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam at his office in the capital.

Kalam Mazumdar also informed the BIDA chairman that some companies are appointing foreign nationals in accounting and financial functions despite the availability of local personnel in similar skills and expertise.

He said ICMAB has got global standard academic curriculum and is producing highly skilled professional accountants to meet the demand for accounting expertise in the country.

The ICMAB President apprised the BIDA executive chairman about the role of cost and management accountants in enterprise management, cost control and performance evaluation of business and industrial undertakings.

The BIDA executive chairman acknowledged the role of the professional accountants in country’s economic development.

He assured them of his support for the development of the Cost and Management Accounting profession.

Among others, Council Member and former President Mohammed Salim and Director of the Institute Nazmus Salehin were present.
