A murder suspect was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Agrabad area under Double Mooring thana of the port city early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Jabed, Jubo League activist and murder accused of former Chhatra League leader Mohiuddin Sohel.

Sudip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said that on information that a gang of terrorists was taking drug in Jamburi field area, a team of police conducted the drive.

Sensing the presence of police, the terrorist opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, leaving Jabed injured with bullet.

Later, the injured was taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Ashikur Rahman, senior assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said that after spotting location of Jabed, a team of police led by the OC conducted the drive around 12:20am, reports UNB.

The OC also received bullet on his right leg and is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The police team also recovered a pistol and arms with several round bullets from the spot.

Earlier on January 7, the former BCL leader Mohiuddin Sohel was lynched by an angry mob at Pahartali railway market of the city on allegation of extortion.
