Another accused arrested

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested another accused of Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case from Rangamati on Saturday.

The arrestee has been identified as Iftekhar Uddin Rana, 21, one of the suspected plotters of the cold-blooded murder.

Mainuddin, additional superintendent of PBI Chattogram Metropolitan, said Rana was held from a house in Rangamati town’s T&T Residential Area in the morning.

Rana, son of Jamal Uddin of Charganesh at Sonagazi upazila in Feni, went into hiding after the murder.

Rana has not been accused in the FIR filed by elder brother of the victim Noman, but his involvement was disclosed by the arrestees during interrogation.

He was handed over to PBI Feni, he police said.

On March 27, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Maulana Siarj-ud-Daula sexually abused Nusrat. Siraj was later arrested after a case filed by her family with Sonagazi Model Police Station.

But on April 6, some cohorts of the principal set her on fire on the madrasa rooftop as she refused to withdraw the case. On April 10, she succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
