School of Jungle: Lessons to Learn from Lion

Forget about dreary classrooms, gloomy PowerPoint slides, lifeless books, and boring teachers. Let’s go to the jungle today to learn from the king of the jungle: The Lion! As I mentioned in my earlier articles— “Life lessons from a little boy”, published on April 4 and “Formal education, morality, and life skills”, published on April 11— that I habitually take lessons from everyone, keeping my heart open to learn and grow. Likewise, I strongly believe that there is much to learn from the animal kingdom: from the tiniest bug on the sidewalk to the mighty lion roaming the African savannah, animals of all kinds can teach us valuable life lessons. Interestingly—like humans—not every animal is alike. Consequently, if we really pay attention, different animals can teach us many vital lessons that we may have forgotten in the haste of our normal daily lives.

But don’t worry! I am here to remind you the indispensable life lessons from time to time to jog your memory—as long as I am alive. Now, whenever I think of the lion, there are so many things that come to my mind. It is its strength, its fieriness and boldness, its regal and majestic bearing that makes it the king of the jungle. Below, I have delineated some of the lessons you can learn from the Lions:

Have a positive attitude

Lions have a strong positive attitude towards their position in the jungle. Just ask yourself the following questions:

Which is the tallest animal in the jungle?

Which is the healthiest animal in the jungle?

Which is the cleverest animal in the jungle?

None of the answer of the above-mentioned questions is lion, rather the tallest animal in the jungle is giraffe, the healthiest animal in the jungle is elephant, and the cleverest animal in the jungle is fox. Still, lions are the kings of the jungle. Why? The answer is positive attitude. Similarly, having a positive attitude is often cited as a major reason for individual success. The benefits of having a positive attitude are nearly infinite – in fact no one ever says having a positive attitude causes problems. However, positive attitude just doesn’t happen. You have to practice it daily. You can read books/articles or watch YouTube motivational videos on how to build a positive mindset. Being with positive people most of the time is the easiest way to have positive mindset. So, try it, if possible!

Avoid negative thoughts

Although lions have many weaknesses as I have mentioned above, they never think about those weaknesses. Rather, they evade thinking like “I am not the tallest animal in the jungle…I am not the healthiest animal in the jungle…I am not the smartest animal in the jungle”. They just think that they are the kings of the jungle. Negative attitudes come from thinking negative thoughts over and over until they become part of your subconscious, part of your personality—they become habitual. Once you have a negative attitude, you expect failure and disaster. And that expectation turns you into a magnet for failure and disaster. Then it becomes a vicious cycle: you expect the worst, so you get the worst. So, avoid negative thoughts!

Have a vision in life

Lions are born to hunt and rule the jungle which makes them struggle for their survival. In the same way, you need to set a vision for yourself to survive among the fittest. Most importantly, you need to work hard to fulfill that vision and learn the lessons throughout the journey. The motivation for you would be the vision or purpose you are working towards and it will keep you going through the good and bad times. If you do not know how to set a vision for yourself, read or consult with any knowledgeable person around you.

Embrace the failures

Being the king of the jungle does not mean a lion never fails. You would be surprised to know that, in hunting for its prey, it fails 8 out of 10 times. But that does not make the lion become depressed and loose hope. Instead, it changes its approach towards making a better hunt every time. The same applies in the human world, you need to embrace your failures and make sure never to repeat them again. You need to evolve and survive by learning though the setbacks in life. For your kind information, I make a lot of mistakes daily, but each time I learn something new.

Be focused

When a lion hunts, it keeps its focus on the pray making less noise. The raid becomes successful only when it gets to the pray without giving any signs of attack. When it comes to your struggles for achieving goals, less noise means less talking and less distractions. Instead of telling everyone what you want to achieve, keep it low, work hard, and focus on your goal.

Create a support system for you

The survival of a lion depends on the trust and support of its pack in good and bad times. This makes its entire pack strong enough to take down a prey. When it comes to struggling for your life goals, you also need support of others—your spouse, family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and others. Therefore, create a support system for you—knowing who can help you in what circumstances. In this case, don’t break each other’s trust. Instead, use your support system in hard times with wisdom.

Have fun and enjoy your life

A lion’s life is not always about hunting and facing challenges. It also finds time to relax and play with others. You should make sure to enjoy the best moments in life and take care of your friends and family.

Finally, you should always focus on improving yourself. Just keep all your focus on making your career and life better. If you find someone trying to bring you down from your place, ignore and be wise in overcoming your problems. Remember, your attitude determines the state of the environment you live in. It is the foundation for every success and every failure you have had and will have. It will make you or break you. In simple, your attitude controls your life. Your actions are a result of your attitude—which in turn creates a reaction from others. So, learn from a lion! Put out negative attitude! Rather, have a positive, joyful attitude and you’ll have positive, thrilled results. Best wishes for you, my dear!
