BD’s Blockchain platform wins int’l award

A government Blockchain platform has been selected for prestigious Enterprise Blockchain Award in services, platforms and solutions category in an international competition held in Toronto, Canada recently.

Blockchain Revolution Global (BRG), a worldwide enterprise leadership community for blockchain, has invited Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) to attend the Blockchain conference and prize distribution programme to be held in Toronto on April 24-25, BCC Executive Director Parthapratim Deb told UNB on Tuesday.

The Blockchain platform, developed by BCC, an affiliated organisation of ICT Division aimed at preserving the online systems and services more securely, got the award facing a competition with internationally reputed IT giants like IBM, Accenture, Microsoft and HCL Technologies.

“Nomination for international award about the activities on emerging technologies like Blockchain proves Bangladesh’s capability to face the challenges and utilise the prospects of the fourth industrial revolution,” said Parthapratim.

He said Blockchain is being considered as the most secure technology in the world and BCC has successfully developed the platform to connect the online systems and services aiming to preserve the documents more securely.

“The BCC’s Blockchain platform will primarily check the use of fake certificates, admit cards,” said Parthapartim adding that steps will be taken to bring the public and private universities and government organisations to preserve their certificates in the Blockchain platform.

A Bangladesh National Digital Architecture (BNDA) team of Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of BCC provided technical cooperation to develop the Blockchain platform.

“Initially, two systems/services -- training management system of BKIICT and Online Recruitment System of BCC -- have been connected with the blockchain platform,” said Deputy Director of LICT project Tarique M Barkatullah adding the certificates of training programme and admit cards for recruitment exams are being preserved with foolproof security.

He said the authenticity of information of certificates and admit cards can be verified through mobile phone. The e-pension system of Primary and Mass Education Directorate is being connected to the BCC Blockchain platform, Tarique added.
