‘National Health Service Week’ begins today

Five-day ‘Health Services Week 2019’ begins across the country today. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the event at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital at 10am.

On Wednesday, a colourful procession will be taken out from Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. The health minister, state minister for health and ministry’s high officials are scheduled to attend the event.

Addressing a press conference at his secretariat office, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said the National Health Service Week-2019 will be celebrated this year with the slogan ‘Right to Health Service, Sheikh Hasina’s Commitment’.

He said various programmes have been taken to mark the health service week in national, district and upazila level.

The health minister said Bangladesh has already taken various initiatives in a bid to ensure universal health coverage to achieve sustainable development goal 2030 declared by the United Nations, through facing different types of challenges.

The health minister said the community clinics set up for every 6000 people in rural area across the country are giving health services to people including poor mothers and children and the initiative is also praised across the world.
