The tenth Syed Badruddin Hossain Smrity Natyautsab begins tomorrow (Thursday). The program is being organised by Padatik Natya Sangsad.

It will showcase three plays by two local troupes and an Indian troupe simultaneously at three theatre halls of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on its openning day.

The eight-day festival will feature 20 plays by 16 local and four Indian theatre troupes, says a press release.

The opening day of the festival will feature shows of Dakat Hiru by Indian troupe Beejpur Chaturthasutra at National Theatre Hall, Galileo by Nagarik Natya Sampraday at Experimental Theatre Hall and Eka Ek Nari by Natyachakra at Studio Theatre Hall.

The festival will also feature theatre shows by local troupes including Prachyanat, Stage One, Theatre (Baily Road), BotTola, Open Space Theatre, Bunan Theatre, Natyam Repertory, Dristipat Natya Sangsad, Dhrupadi Acting Space, Bangla Theatre, Niravaran Theatre, Shunyan Repertory, Batighar and the host troupe Padatik Natya Sangsad.

Indian troupes Purgatory, Yoni and Amta Parichoy will also stage plays at the festival.

Besides theatre shows, the festival will also hold a discussion on Syed Badruddin Hossain on April 11.

Padatik Natya Sangsad has been organising the festival since 2010 as a tribute to the troupe’s late president Syed Badruddin Hossain, who served as Padatik’s president till his death in 2009. This year Padatik will honour two eminent thespians with Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Award.

The troupe will honour thespian and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky and thespian Golam Sarwar for their contributions to theatre.
