Some 14,988 students were absent on the first day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations that began on Monday.
Besides, 27 students were expelled on the day for adopting unfair means. Of the expelled students, 22 were from technical education board, according to a press release issued by inter-education boards Co-ordination Sub-committee President Prof M Ziaul Haque.
Some 10,160 students were absent in eight general education boards, 2,614 in Madrasah education board while 2,214 in Technical education board.
A total of 13,51,505 examinees -- 6,87,009 female and 6,64,496 male from 9,081 institutions registered for the examinations under eight general, one madrasah, one technical education and one diploma in business studies boards this year.
The examinations are being held at 2,579 centres across the country while a total of 275 students are set to appear in the examinations from eight overseas centres
