Police release 3 Yaba addicts after detention in Mithapukur

Although taking Yaba is a punishable offence according to law, police released three persons after detaining red-handed at Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur on Monday.

 

The incident took place around 2:00 pm at Beltoli Bazar of Islampur village in Mirzapore Union under Boirati Hat police outpost in the upazila.

 

Witnesses Sabuj from the area said, “Police caught Sabuj (25), Nayan (21) and Shuvo (21) red-handed while consuming Yaba tablets. Later, ex-Awami League President Mostafizur Rahman Lazu of Mirzapur Union unit and UP member Shahajada came to the spot and persuaded the police that they were not involved with narcotic dealings. Then police set the detainees free.”

 

Another witness Milon said, “After releasing the detainees, police went to Sabuj’s house to raid and found 30 bottles of Phensidyle.” 

 

When contacted, sub-inspector (Investigation) Mominul Islam of Boirati Police outpost said “Police were forced to release the detainees at the face of outburst of the locals. After that, they conducted raid at the house of Sabuj and recovered 30 bottles of Phensidyle in an abandoned condition.”

 

“Police were preparing to lodge a complaint against them and also trying to arrest the culprits”, he added.
