Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Thursday formed a five-member probe committee to scrutinise the papers of Suprobhat and Jabal-e-Noor bus services.

The committee led by BRTA director Sirajul Islams has been asked to submit a report within March 27, said BRTA deputy director Shafiquzzaman Bhuiyan, also the member secretary of the committee.

The committee began its work from the day of its formation, he informed.

Other members of the committee are Manzur Morshed,

additional deputy commissioner (Traffic-West) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Golam Haider, assistant director of BRTA (headquarters), and Rasheduzzaman, motor vehicle inspector of BRTA.

BRTA on Wednesday suspended operation of all buses of the two operators — 167 of Suprobhat Paribahan and 29 of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan— until further notice.

The BRTA authorities asked the two companies to produce their documents within three working days.

Two students—Abdul Karim Rajib, 18, and Dia Khanam Mim, 17, — were killed and nine others injured by a bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan on July 29, last year.

The death of the students sparked a wave of protests seeking safe roads.

Meanwhile, Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, a university student, was run over by a bus of Suprobhat Paribahan at Nadda on Tuesday.
