BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that the road safety movement frequently takes place, as the government has ‘failed’ to ensure safety of country’s people.
“Anarchy has been created across the country. We are seeing that there is no rule of law in the country. This government has totally failed to give people peace, security and security of life,” he said. The BNP leader came up with the statements addressing a token ‘mass hunger strike’ arranged by Keraniganj upazila unit BNP, its associate organisations in front of the party central office in Nayapaltan of the capital.
He demanded the government release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail immediately. “Yesterday, I (Tuesday) went to meet Khaleda Zia in jail. She was so sick that she couldn’t sit keeping her head straight. She was suffering from serious pain in whole body and couldn’t eat anything. If she ate something then vomited,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He alleged that Khaleda Zia is being pushed into death in a planned way. Drawing attention to the party men, the BNP secretary general said there is no scope to sit idle now.
“It is not a crisis for only BNP but for the entire nation. Let’s get united and build democratic country through ousting the autocrats and ensure release of Khaleda Zia from jail,” he added.
Meanwhile, speaking at a protest rally at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday said the killing of BUP student Abrar in a road accident proves that the government has ‘failed’ to ensure safe road.
