Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan on Monday said Shakib Al Hasan has no chance to play in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL).
“Shakib was not included in the draft list of players who are available to play in the Dhaka Premier League. So, there’s no chance for him to participate in the ongoing season of the league,” Nazmul told reporters at Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after the special prayers that BCB arranged following the safe return of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team from New Zealand.
“Shakib has been recovering from an injury. He’ll be assessed by doctors on March 20. We can say about his position after that. But it’s sure that he has no chance to play in the Dhaka League,” the BCB boss further said.
Bangladesh Test captain Shakib missed the entire New Zealand series which ended unexpectedly due to terror attacks on two mosques in Christchurch.
The southpaw got his finger injured in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket on February 8. Since then, he has been passing time under the rehabilitation programme of BCB.
Last week, chairman of BCB media committee Jalal Yunus confirmed the media that Shakib was already allowed to take part in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to kick off on March 23. The star all-rounder will play this year’s IPL for his current team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“I think there should be no restriction on a player to participate in any event if he is fit enough to play. A player should take care of himself. Shakib is already allowed to take part in the IPL. He’ll be playing protecting himself. Maybe, he won’t complete the season. Instead of doing so, he might return midway of the league,” Jalal told the reporters on March 13 at InterContinental, Dhaka.
