‘Drug trader’ killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight between two gangs at Harabhanga village in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur early Monday, UNB reports.

Police said deceased Budu Ali, 30, son of late Zoyad Ali, and a resident of Pirtola village, was accused in several drugs-related cases.

Harendra Nath Sarker, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said a team from Pirtola police camp went to the spot after hearing gunshots.

“Police rescued Budu, wounded in the gunfight, and took him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead,” Sarker said.

Police claimed that it was a gunfight between two groups of drug traders.

One kilogram of hemp, 20 bottle of phensedyl and a one-shooter gun were seized from the site.
