Man held while selling daughter at Goalundo brothel

Police in Goalundo on Saturday held a man while he was selling his teenage daughter in a brothel of Daulatdia within Rajbari district.

The detainee was identified as Ershad Ali, 35, a rickshaw puller of Hosenpur village in Manda upazila. The police also arrested a prostitute Shilpi, 35, who was buying the girl from him, reports UNB.

Quoting Police UNB said the 13-year- old victim was Ershad's daughter from his first marriage which ended with divorce previously.

The girl's mother also had a second marriage and was unable to take responsibility of her.

She was staying at different relatives' houses including her grandmother and aunt.

Ershad, who was a regular client of the brothel, told the girl that he is going to take her responsibilities and keep her in a rented house at Dhaka while he actually was planning to sell her for Tk 30,000.

In the name of taking her to Dhaka, Ershad took the girl to the brothel where a team of police acting on a tip-off rescued the girl in a drive and arrested the Ershad and Shilpi.

Even after being rescued the victim girl offered apology for her father's act and pleaded for his release, said officer-in-charge of Goalundo Ghat Police, Md Ezaz Shafi.

Sub-inspector of Goalundo Ghat Police Station Oliar Rahman filed a case in this regard.

Application would be filed before the local court seeking permission to keep the girl in Safe Home as she has no guardians, he said.
