The UN bodies honoured three Bangladeshi women, who defied tradition, challenged gender stereotypes and social barriers.
They were awarded at a ceremony organised by ILO, UNFPA and UN Women on Thursday.
The names of ‘Journey towards Gender Equality Award’ winners are Pushpa Khatun (19), Parvin Akhter (33) and Nasima Akhter (37), who received recognition from the country’s heads of several UN bodies like ILO, UNFPA and UN Women.
They received these recognitions for having excellent contribution in different fields like gender equality, entrepreneurship, community activism and self-employment.
“We have to create an environment where women can thrive as entrepreneurs by removing structural barriers such as gender-bias,” said Shoko Ishikawa, Country Representative of UN Women.
