CHATTOGRAM: The ‘pistol’ which was seized from suspected plane hijacker Palash Ahmed is a toy gun, the Criminal Investigation Department has said in its ballistics report.
The CID submitted the report to the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police on Tuesday night.Inspector Rajesh Barua, the investigation officer of the case, told the Daily Sun that they received the report that detected the ‘pistol’ as a toy gun.
The magazine of the ‘gun’, which is inscribed with Gun Series Osaka, Aman Industries, Made in Bangladesh, can be separated from the body, he added.
An attempt to hijack a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines en route to Dubai from Dhaka was foiled as it made an emergency landing in Chattogram on February 24.
All the passengers, pilots and crewmembers on board the plane disembarked safely before the hijacker was killed in a commando operation.
The ‘pistol’ was recovered from his possession during the drive. A case was filed with Patenga police station.
