Leaders of Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a coalition of leftist political parties, on Saturday alleged that the government is arranging city corporation and upazila parishad elections in a bid to ‘cover up fraudulence’ during the 11th parliamentary election.

“We are demanding that such deception with people in the name of voting be stopped,” they said.

LDA leaders Bajlur Rashid Firoj, Mujahidul Islam Selim, Khalequzzaman, Shah Alam, Mubinul Haider Chowdhury, Shubhrangshu Chakravarty, Saiful Huq, Akbar Khan, Jonayed Saqi, Firoj Ahmed, Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Abdus Sattar, Moshrefa Mishu and Hamidul Haque came up with the remarks in a joint statement issued.

They alleged that the Awami League-led grand alliance government has made history through ‘unprecedented vote robbery’ held on December 30 in 2018.

“As a result, there was no enthusiasm among people in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election and election in some wards of the two cities corporations of Dhaka,” the leftist leaders said.

They also called upon all left progressive, patriotic and democratic political parties to wage a united mass movement to ‘restore people’s voting rights and democracy’.
